Further Progress

Engine is gone to the local engine builder for assembly.
Right now working on the interior.
Picked up a Bugpack merged header with muffler. I think it is a little small for 2110cc, but it will do for now.
Also picked up used front seat. They are better than mine (no mice in them) so they will go into the Ghia until I get some bucket seats

Some progress has been made!

Third Try: Nashua, NH

After two disappointments, my next try (I won't give up): A 58 Ragtop totally disassembled, stored in a garage in Nashua, NH.

I needs new Heaterchannels, new metal at the spare tire area and some welding on the inner rear fenders. Apart from that it is quite solid. AND ITS A RAGTOP! I have to think about that!

It was quite an effort to see the whole car, because the garage was full of parts :-D

Second try: Augusta, ME

My second try was a 1962 beige and a 1963 white bug in Augusta, ME, a three hour drive from Boston. As we arrived in Augusta, the beige 1962 was gone and only the white 1963 was still available.

Boy, that car was crap! The luggage shelf was welded probably twenty times, the heater channels were rotted and a bend pipe was installed, where the front seats were suppose to be, to channel the hot air from the engine to the front. The floor pans were rotted because a former owner tried to fix them by welding new pans on top of the old ones. What a great idea !
If you look closer, you can see, that the crimp on the front hood is gone. It is replaced by cutting it out and then welding metal sheets from the inside. To make it smooth, someone used lots of bondo!
But the best of all: that guy wanted 4500$ for that piece of junk!
Poor beetle !!!!!!

First Try: Marshfield, MA

OK, first try to get a nice beetle was in Marshfield,MA. I found a 1962 Bug on craigslist with little rust and patina. I called the guy and we made an apointment. A couple of days later, he called me to say that he sold another car and wants to keep the beetle. Too bad for me.

Next day, the beetle was back on craigslist. WHAT THE F***!!!
Three days later the guy calls me and ask, if I am still interested. OK, we make an apointment for the next weekend.
On friday the guy calls me, if I can come earlier, because he needs to work later on. OK, earlier!
My wife and I drive 1 hour to Marshfield, but the guy is not there. He doesn't answer his phone either. WHAT THE FU**!!!!

First Try...Bad luck!

Lets put an ad on craigslist!

PS: I put up an ad on craigslist, and the guy send me an email. I just laught at him, damn bastard!

Welcome

Welcome, who ever you are.
This is a Blog about a german guy, who went to Boston, MA for work, but couldn't let his passion behind. He decided to search for a nice aircooled ride to build a Cal-Looker. Enjoy!!!
